Chapter 14 : Out-Of-Season New Student

「… Well then, let’s begin the 5th regular morning assembly of the 725th year since the founding of Helios.」

The voice of the Student Council President, Alain Valor, managed to resound in the Assembly Hall through the usage of the voice amplifier magic tool. His voice was truly soothing to the ears, I see…well, he did have the disposition befitting a Student Council President.

While Conrad did tell me that this man’s perfection was suspicious, to me personally, I didn’t see the facade as something to worry about. After all, as long as he didn’t try to harm me, that’s not my problem.

Besides, I had no intention to stand out in this academy. So, there was no way someone like this Student Council President would be interested in me.

His job as the Student Council President wouldn’t allow him to notice an unremarkable junior who’s two years below him amongst the other students. Even with my 27th rank amongst the freshmen.

And by the way, despite the chain of commotion that involved Miss Maria from before, the students had calmed down and started the regular morning assembly as if the commotion from before had never happened.

Maria herself had returned to the Assembly Hall, joining the rank of the other Student Council members, who stood behind the teacher, with a nonchalant expression.

Naturally, she had already changed her dress, one that was of a different design compared to the one before.

Unexpectedly, she didn’t spend too much time when she changed her dress. I mean, it was not that unusual for a lady to take several hours just to change her dress, but Miss Maria had returned in ten minutes, wearing a new dress. That fact surprised me a little.

Naturally, since she had returned, the regular morning assembly was only delayed by five minutes from its scheduled time. This implied that Miss Maria was a sensible lady and carried common sense.

It was that or it was because she took revenge on a certain someone for dirtying her dress.

…well, as I’d said before, my first impression toward Miss Maria wasn’t that good, so I thought the reason for her delay was because she was having her revenge on that flower pot girl..

[ED: …you said before that it’s not unusual for ladies to take several hours…Maria only took ten minutes…in what way is her return delayed enough to have time to take revenge? Aho ka omae? Na, honto baka, Aho.]

…in any case, the regular morning assembly continued without a hitch with the Student Council giving their report about last month’s report, the distribution for this month’s budget, the introduction of a new system and the reason behind it.

So, I figured that there’s nothing for me to worry about.

「Well then…next is the introduction of our new friend, a freshman who just got admitted this month. Honestly speaking, the entrance exam ended six months ago, so this new freshman is actually an out of season freshman but… Our academy’s headmaster said that he is a prodigy that shows more than enough qualification to be admitted into our academy. His name is Ryuu Amapola. An international foreign student from the Kingdom of Rilante. I hope that everyone will be on good terms with him.」

At the beginning, Alain was rather exaggerating when he introduced me. So, when I stood up and slightly bowed, the stare of the noble girls were rather piercing to me. For a moment, I felt like they were in heat.

Those were definitely the eyes of the noble girls when they found their future husband prospect.

But, the moment they heard that I was an international exchange student, the heated passion in their eyes reduced almost entirely.

So, I sat back on my chair, relieved,

「…really people, he doesn’t actually have any problem with money. Listen to me, Ryuu, they think you’re forced to enter this academy to increase this academy’s fame due to your status as the international student.」

Conrad muttered to me, puzzling me. So, I asked what he meant by his words.

「Well it’s not like this is limited to this year only. And though an out-of-season freshman is rare, some foreign students did take the entrance exam every year to raise the value of this academy. Honestly, while those politicians felt that such action is necessary… It’s not like our academy’s fame is low. But then, they said that the reason for the foreign students to come here is to let the local students feel the difference between local culture and international cultures. But, uh, how should I say it…truthfully, those international students were looking down on us,, the students who took the entrance exam fair and square.」

「I see now… Well, I don’t really mind it. I can say that part of what you said was the truth anyway.」

Besides, the truth was I was half-forced by my grandfather to attend this academy.

But…an international student was necessary to increase fame, huh…well, it has another meaning behind it too.

Anyway, having other students disliking me didn’t mean that I’m at a disadvantage either. Rather, it was the best thing for me who didn’t hope to stand out.

Although…I’ll definitely be troubled if I was deemed as an incompetent person. I’ve a deadline to find employment after I graduate from this academy after all. And, while I don’t mind being treated on the same level as the freshmen who just entered this academy, I would definitely mind if that decision makes it harder for me to land a job. Then again…I shouldn’t worry about that matter, seeing that I had an above average grade.

「You don’t mind, but I DO! I mean, I’m the one who is advertising you as 《Young and promising noble》. If you aren’t even worried about your situation, the other students will definitely question the credibility of my information, right?」

I laughed when Conrad said those words to me.

「I’ll do my best to live up to your expectations… Well, I will make sure to be serious in regard to sorceries, and please do tell me if you’re planning to add more details about my personal information so that I can adjust it to the buyers expectation.」

「Oh, you do care about your reputation after all. Okay then, just leave it to me…. But, can you let me see you practicing your sorcery once, after the school hours tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, so that I can properly judge your skill and not give a mistaken information?」

「I don’t mind, but do we have a location to do it?」

「There’s training facilities amongst a few research buildings in this academy. How about those places? Even students can use them for their training as long as they submit their request beforehand. Or, we can use the arena if your sorcery is a large scale one. Though, if it’s in that place, then it’ll be exposed to the public…but, if you don’t mind being seen by other people, I can submit an application to use the arena.」

Though Conrad seems to be a rather sketchy person at a glance, he seems to be extremely devoted when it comes to information gathering.

I mean, he offered two optional places for me to practice my sorceries, all the while considering whether I wanted my skills to be exposed in public or not.

In the end, I nodded to Conrad.

「If that’s the case, the Sorcery Research Facility might be the better choice. But, will the management side really allowed two students to use such facility by themselves?」

「Yeah. And, in that place, we’ll have no worries about being seen by other students. Blatantly that is. There’s still a risk of someone peeping on us through the windows above the entrance, but as long as we cover it with the curtains, it won’t be a problem. Well, I’ll submit the application to use the facility tomorrow.」
