Villainess and the Stalker - Chapter 15 - Classmate
Chapter 15 : Classmate
「… My name is Ryuu Amapola. It’s a pleasure to meet you.」
Right now, I was in the front of the classroom I was assigned to, bowing my head as I spoke.
The headmaster told me about the class I was allocated to after the end of the regular assembly and pointed out the homeroom teacher as well. Thus, I followed the homeroom teacher to the class, doing another introduction after we arrived there.
And, while my introduction right now might seem to be too simplistic, honestly the other information that could be used as an introduction, for example details of my motherland, had already been used during the morning assembly.
Besides, I didn’t think I needed another long-drawn introduction since some of the students might think of me as a cast-away student from another country. But, when I raised my head, the reality was different than what I imagined.
Originally, I thought that I’d see my classmates looking at me with suspicion in their eyes, however, that was not the case. In fact, they were welcoming me with a gentle and warm smile.
Despite the discrepancy I felt, I looked around the class, only to discover the face of my first friend in this academy amongst my classmates, Conrad.
In short, I was placed in Class 3. Conrad himself told me before that he was in Class 3. Thus… this made him my classmate.
We smiled at each other as soon as our eyes met and everything became clear to me. The reason for the warm welcome I received was arranged by Conrad.
Really, a good friend is a requirement when you move to a strange land.
「… Well then, Ryuu. Your seat will be… Next to Conrad. I hear that both of you are already acquainted to each others too.」
After the teacher said so, I nodded to him and went to the seat beside Conrad’s.
His seat was one seat to the right of the window seat, and mine was precisely the aforementioned window seat. And to get there, I had to go through my other classmates’ seats, which was fine since I found they were such nice people.
[ED: I’m wondering whether he’s a noble son that’s highly educated in polite back-stabbing or not? Cause…to judge people as nice just from that? And, he’s said to be smart…]
「Nice to meet you, Ryuu. I heard from Conrad that you’re good at Magic, please teach me if you have some free time.」「Let’s leave the martial arts department to that meat head Conrad but… It’s actually really easy to slack during martial arts class.」「You have such beautiful silver hair. Teach me how you groom your hair later, okay.」「I heard that Rilante’s craftsmanship is really famous, you’ve to tell me later about the latest fashion in your motherland, okay!」
Was what they said to me along the way to my seat.
Their pure honesty barren of ill-intent was something that I had almost never felt back in my motherland.
Naturally, my lips formed a smile as I nodded to them after I sat on my seat.
「… It seems we ended up in the same class.」
I replied with a nod to Conrad who sat beside me.
「Yeah…. I just never expected this warm welcome though. Thanks Conrad, I owe you one.」
「What are you talking about, it’s not a big deal. But it’s better to remember that our class is different from the other class. Our class is filled with nothing but good guys, unlike the others.」
「Can you be more elaborate?」
「There’re only proper noble kids in our class. Moreover, even the commoner in our class aren’t the type who held contempt toward nobles.」
「So the other class is….」
「A wreck… Though I won’t say none of them are proper one. You’re really lucky to be placed in this class. Even more so since there’ll be no shuffling class till we graduate from this academy. I mean, you’re basically… Screwed if you’re stuck with troublesome guys for three years straight.」
「Basically, you’re telling me that there’s exception in the other class?」
「Yes. There’re a lot of them in the special class, the gathering of outstanding students.」
I became even more curious about this, since the way he told me this was as if I’d go into a life-imprisonment should I unluckily be placed in the other classes.
「The way you’re telling is as if you aren’t willing to go there yourself.」
Though it’d make sense if Conrad had special circumstances like mine, because any normal student should feel honored if they were accepted into the special class.
I mean, entering the special class, which was the gathering of this academy’s top rank students, was just like a royal road in life, which would guarantee employment after you graduate.
[TL : YOU LIAR!!! I’M FROM TOP UNI AND HAVE HAD A HARD TIME FINDING EMPLOYMENT AFTER I GRADUATED!!! T^T
E/D: … don’t intersperse sad reality to the ideal world nii. Besides, this is the medieval world. It should make sense.]
And, considering my former status and true rank…there should be no problem for me to be admitted into the special class.
But now that Conrad told me about this fact, I paused.
「That class is the den of the devil. Be it noble birth or commoners, almost all of the members of the special class are simply detestable. For example, you still remember the student council this morning right? They’re the proper example of a noble to be yearned by the commoners… Their grades are also cut above the rest of the other nobles. Naturally, there are also excellent commoner students who go against the noble students who are weaker than them… We call those students as, Revolutionarist.」
「Despite that boiling situation, this kingdom… Is strangely peaceful.」
When it comes to my motherland, the confrontation between nobles and commoners should be on the minimal side.
The reason for that was because both commoners and nobles have the same sense of value. Then again, my motherland wouldn’t go as far as teaching a curriculum that would give rise to revolutionaries.
「However, it doesn’t mean that those revolutionaries grew up naturally like that…anyway, they are gathered in one class and because they are gathered together, there is bound to be one or two charismatic youths amongst them in spite of not being a noble born. Personally, I hope those guys will not get carried away in a bad way, but…well, I suppose gathering those problematic guys in one class is deliberately done by the academy. That way, perhaps, they can spot the trouble and nip it at the root before it becomes out of control.」
「I see now, that makes things easier to understand indeed.」
Though, if they are truly serious about it, nothing could actually prevent those revolutionists from raising a revolution after they became an adult and gain more power while hiding and sharpening their claws in their academy era. So, this academy went as far as marking those revolutionists guys during their youth in the academy. All to prevent them from gaining too much power after they graduated and destabilized the kingdom and nobility’s power.
Then again, it’s not like such an event had never happened in history. So, it’s appropriate to take a measure against it. And, while this system looked like a tyranny, but…I suppose this system was the thing that protected this kingdom’s peace.
However, the academy itself might wish for its commoner students to graduate and make full use of their ability for the sake of supporting this kingdom. That’s why the academy still keeps its curriculum. And while that kind of system might look strange for a foreigner like me who wasn’t even part of Helios Kingdom’s citizens, that was none of his business.
「Well, those revolutionists who are truly excellent also never try to raise a sudden revolution. They understand very well that revolution won’t solve anything. And that’s why, the conflict never escalated beyond the academy, between the revolutionist students and noble students. While the conflict is annoying in the other classes, the conflicts between those two parties are even more suffocating in the Special Class. There, the two are basically keeping an eye against each other.」
「Seriously, I thought they’re smart enough to know not to cause any problem in Special Class?」
「Indeed, there’s no problem with their grade. And Ryuu, I’m looking forward to see your skill after school today.」
