Chapter 1316: Antidote

Having been humiliated so explicitly, Gu Jinxiu lowered her head slightly. “And who do you think you are?”

Xia Moyan couldn’t be bothered with her. He simply looked at Wei Lingnan with cold and intimidating eyes.

Gu Jinxiu couldn’t understand, but Wei Lingnan knew exactly who Xia Moyan was and what he could do. While he wasn’t afraid of him, Ah Luo was currently a human being, who knew if she’d be affected by a guardian of the planet? Wei Lingnan lowered his head and looked at Gu Jinxiu as if he was trying to appease her. “I won’t be long.”

Gu Jinxiu was worried. “Nan!”

Wei Lingnan gave her a reassuring glance and then led Xia Moyan deeper into the underground base.

In a secluded laboratory, Wei Lingnan asked Xia Moyan, “What’s going on, I don’t have much time.”

There was some coldness in Xia Moyan’s eyes. His niece was lying on the hospital bed and in critical condition, how could the main culprit Wei Lingnan be this heartless? At this point, there was no use arguing over trivialities. He simply stated his needs succinctly. “Yingluo’s body is displaying some abnormal symptoms. I’m here to get the antidote from you.”

Wei Lingnan’s expression darkened.

Xia Moyan thought that he was unwilling to hand it over and hence added, “Even if you’ve broken up, you should be cleaning up the mess you’ve created. For every day that Yingluo hasn’t recovered fully, you’re still responsible for this. If you dare to avoid this responsibility, I’ll make sure to let you regret ever coming to this planet.”

Wei Lingnan’s lips quivered as if he was about to say something, but he stopped himself.

“It takes time to make the antidote,” he said to Xia Moyan. “I’ll bring it to you in three days.”

Xia Moyan was frustrated. “Three days? Yingluo is in so much pain, every second of it is suffering!”

“This is the fastest I can go,” Wei Lingnan calmly said. “You’d better stop being a nuisance here. Every second earlier that you’re off takes away a second of her suffering.”

Xia Moyan really wished to torture this man, but his rationality stopped him. He turned away and left.

Wei Lingnan did not waste any time either and immediately took a passage to the secret laboratory. He instructed his assistant through a communicating device. “Bring me the inducing agent no.3188.”

His assistant, the elderly person who had been with him for many years, hurriedly brought it over.

Wei Lingnan received it and began mixing it in specific ratios before watering it over a little seedling. The seedling had barely germinated and it looked fragile as it swayed slightly upon contact with the inducing agent. Some smoke began coming off from it and it almost seemed like the seedling could dissolve or disappear into it. He closed his eyes and allowed the energy to be transferred from his palm to the seedling. After several hours, the energy from him had helped the seedling absorb the agent more efficiently and it had grown several inches.

Wei Lingnan opened his eyes and his body swayed a little, almost falling.

“Mister!” The elderly person hurriedly held onto him.

Wei Lingnan forced himself to stand upright and signaled that he was alright, but his face was white as a sheet and sweat was dripping off his forehead.

The elderly person looked at him, puzzled. “This Skatana flower is still a seedling, it takes about 20 days to mature. Mister, are you trying to induce its growth so that it’ll mature sooner? But the previous flower had only matured a few days ago and was used for the antidote for Miss Xia Yingluo. She wouldn’t experience any abnormal symptoms anytime soon, so what’s the rush?”

Wei Lingnan’s expression was a little dark. “The antidote wasn’t delivered to her.”

When Xia Moyan told him about this, Wei Lingnan had already found something strange about the situation. Although he and Xia Yingluo had already broken up, he’d always taken her possible abnormal symptoms into consideration out of responsibility. As such, he’d prepared the antidote beforehand and had someone deliver it to Xia Yingluo. But her symptoms still flared up, that could only mean that she never received or taken the antidote at all. Just where did it go wrong?

Evidently, the elderly person figured out the problem too and tended up. “I’ll get somebody to investigate.”

Wei Lingnan shut his eyes for a bit. “There’s no need.”

“But,” the elderly person did not understand. “Who’d be daring enough to meddle with your things, that person deserves to be punished…”

Something came to mind all of a sudden and he shut his mouth mid-sentence.

Besides Gu Jinxiu, who was “Ah Luo herself”, who’d have the guts and hatred to lay a finger on that antidote? If it really was Gu Jinxiu behind it, then there was no need to investigate. So what if he found out it was her? Was he going to confront Gu Jinxiu? Gu Jinxiu must’ve been unhappy when she found out about his antidote for Xia Yingluo, there was no point in bringing this conflict to the surface.

This was probably why Wei Lingnan found that investigation was unnecessary.

Wei Lingnan took a few deep breaths as he held onto the countertop for support. He said to the elderly person, “Keep a lookout outside and don’t let anyone in. No one is to disturb me these few days.”

The elderly person knew that he was trying to induce the growth of the Skatana flower with his energy to make the antidote in the shortest time possible. But this would use up a lot of his energy and he’d end up in a dangerous, fatigued situation if too much of it was expended. “Mister…” The elderly man looked up at him with concern.

Wei Lingnan swept him a glance.

The elderly person broke out in cold sweat and dared not say anything more. He quietly nodded and took his leave.

The door to the laboratory closed slowly. From outside, the elderly person could see that Wei Lingnan was starting yet another cycle of energy transfer.

How sinful…

The elderly man had no idea how things were going to proceed from here. His boss had been so caught up with Ah Luo all this while that every failed test subject had been destroyed inhumanely. But this time, Xia Yingluo was an exception. Not only had she not been destroyed, but he had also even continued to provide her with the antidote for her abnormal symptoms, even though it upset “Ah Luo”. Feelings were the most complex of things in this world. At this point, was the person that Wei Lingnan truly loved still that “Ah Luo”? The elderly man wasn’t so sure anymore.

Xia Yingluo lay on the bed in her room and tossed and turned in pain.

She could feel her body burning up as if she was in hell, and even the bones inside her seemed to be inching towards explosion.

Three days ago, she had been brought home by her family. Since her symptoms were completely out of the hospital’s capacity to treat, she was actually better off receiving care at home. She was in a semi-conscious state now and her family members took turns to stay by her bedside, holding her hand and offering her moral support.
