“You’re not coming over?”

Pursing his lips lightly, He Yu looked at the darkening sky outside the window and said, “I can’t go, I have something to do at home.”

He Yu’s report on the afternoon’s draft report was so well done that the team leader from New Zealand vividly remembered him. He Yu apologized and explained that he couldn’t join them for dinner tonight because of family concerns. The team leader was a woman who was serious and demanding. Hearing him say he was going home to take care of his sick wife, she smiled and patted him on the shoulder to show appreciation and understanding.

After the handover was complete, He Yu went into his car and had the driver take him back home.

Su Qiuzi slept until past six o’clock, nestled under the covers, and she broke into a faint sweat. There were no lights on in the house and it was very dark. Raising her hand to touch her forehead, she felt it was starting to get hot again. Dazed and sleepy, she knew she’d probably have to be hospitalized again tonight if she slept any longer. Thinking about it, she hurriedly got out of bed and prepared to eat something. She needed to put down the fever by eating the prescribed medicine.

Going to the kitchen, Su Qiuzi opened the refrigerator and took milk and cereal, ready to casually mix the two of them. As she was pouring the milk, there was a sound of the door opening. She glanced towards the door and saw He Yu walk in.

Some milk spilled out of her hand, and Su Qiuzi, dazed, brought her finger to her mouth and sucked her hand, then said, “You came back early today.”

On the kitchen counter was cold milk and cereal. She braced herself for a scolding and stood a little shakily. He Yu glanced down at them and approached her. He lifted his hand and touched her forehead, which was burning up again. He Yu withdrew his hand and cleaned the milk from her hand, saying, “You go and rest first, I’ll make some porridge and call you when it’s done.”

Listening to He Yu’s words, Su Qiuzi felt that in her current situation, it would appear to be pretentious to be polite with him again. Nodding her head, she went to wait on the couch in the living room.

The porridge was quickly cooked and it seemed very tasty, so Su Qiuzi took a small sip of the bowl. After drinking the porridge, she took the fever medicine and crawled back into bed to rest again. While she was eating, He Yu received another work call. He was really busy, but busy in a meaningful way. Unlike her, who couldn’t even make a few bucks working all day.

Distracted by his voice before her body was up, Su Qiuzi looked at He Yu and answered with a nasally voice. “I’ll go to the guest room to sleep so I don’t infect you too. Being sick is not pleasant.”

He Yu looked at her and said, “No need, I have a good physique.”

Su Qiuzi thought that He Yu should have been thinking that as he had accompanied her all night yesterday without getting infected. The man’s dark eyes were deep, like bottomless pools of raging water. He looked at her with his lowered eyelids, the corners of his lips faintly raised.
