[Excerpt from side story 4:}

After patting the child’s bottom, Launelian continued walking, eager to see his sister as soon as possible.

But when he arrived at his sister’s office, what he saw was not his sister’s lovely face, but—.

【Rineh is on vacation with me.
Here’s a list of things to do to make sure that Rineh doesn’t have a hard time when she returns.】

The note was written in unusually neat handwriting, accompanied by a mountain of work.

Crumple! The note was crushed in Launelian’s hand.

“Tarkan, that little…!”

–

With a clatter, the objects in the room began to float into the air and swirl around.

Launelian’s power responded to his anger and began to affect his surroundings.

“Wheeee!” Actsion laughed gleefully as he swam among the floating objects.

Although he was angry, Launelian controlled his telekinesis carefully to ensure his nephew wasn’t hurt.

Then he turned sharply to chief steward.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was trying to tell you, but…”

Launelian hadn’t even allowed him to finish his greeting before he walked away.

The steward had tried multiple times to speak to him, but Launelian hadn’t listened, too excited about seeing his sister.

“Your Grace didn’t listen…”

“If you said Rineh’s name first, I would have listened.”

“…”

“I thought you were going to start one of your useless tangents again. You always nag me every time I come to the palace.”

“…”

‘So, this is my fault now?’

The chief steward felt wronged.

However, Launelian’s foul temper was famous since he was a child.

Growing up in the harsh northern region after being kicked out from the imperial palace only made his temper worse.

And the only person who could calm Launelian was not in the palace right now.

‘Hah, I miss her. Where art thou, Your Majesty Aristine…!’

The chief steward looked out the window and a tear rolled down his cheek.

“Hah, so this is the work Rineh needs to handle when she returns?” Launelian slumped into a chair.

Despite his frustration towards Tarkan, he couldn’t let his sister be overworked when she returned.

The scattered documents arranged themselves neatly before Launelian, and the floating objects returned to their places.

Actsion was also gently lowered to the ground.

‘Every time I see it, it’s truly amazing.’

The chief steward was once again in awe of Launelian’s telekinetic control. He couldn’t imagine how much the Grand Duke had to go through to master such control.

Actsion clung to Launelian’s leg. “Uncle! Again, again!”

“You rascal.”

Launelian chuckled and sent his wriggling nephew flying again with his telekinesis. Then he turned his attention to the documents.

‘Rineh, leave that bastard Tarkan behind on your trip!’

While quietly screaming inside.

“What’s wrong?”

Tarkan asked and Aristine tilted her head.

“Nothing, I felt like someone just called me.”

“Sounds like you have enough time to think about someone other than me?”

Tarkan said, gently playing with Aristine’s hair.

Her dazzling silver hair slipped through his fingers, revealing her round shoulders. He kissed her shoulder and looked at her intently.

“Khan…”

“It’s been a while since we were alone together.”

“You wanted us to be alone?”

“Always.”

Tarkan’s eyes darkened. Just as he started leaning in closer to his wife…

“Wow! Look over there!” Aristine exclaimed cheerfully.

Her gaze was directed not at her husband but outside the window. Tarkan ground his teeth.

‘Damn it, I should’ve closed the curtains first.’

Because Aristine loved looking outside so much, he had left it alone and forgot about it.

“…What is it?”

Nevertheless, Tarkan dutifully responded to his wife’s words.

He looked outside and saw that the carriage had left the capital and they were approaching the Gate.

“This is my first time seeing it since the barrier opening ceremony! So this is what it normally looks like.”

There were lines of people trying to pass through the Gate. Aristine watched them all in amazement.

Seeing his wife’s sparkling eyes, Tarkan couldn’t help but smile.

It had been over three years since Aristine became Emperor. One would think she would no longer be so fascinated.

‘She’s ever the same.’

Then again, the barrier project was something she had been working hard on since her time as the Princess Consort, so she must feel especially proud now.

Not only did it block demonic beasts, it also served as a bridge between cities and countries.

Tarkan felt proud too.

This project was something Aristine began because she was worried about his safety. It felt like the proof of Aristine’s worry and care for him.

‘…Still, it’s a bit of a pity.’

Tarkan pursed his lips as he stared at the back of his wife’s head, who was now completely focused on something else.

Then he subtly undid one more button on his chest.

Meanwhile, the carriage came to a stop.

Just before the carriage door opened, Aristine looked back at Tarkan.

“I wanted to be alone with you too, Khan.”

Her delicate hand brushed across his broad pecs.

“You…”

Right when Tarkan was about to pull Aristine by the waist, the door of the carriage opened.

Tarkan glared at the innocent knight who opened the door.

‘Why now…’

The hard-working knight who was suddenly the recipient of the Emperor’s glare felt like crying.
