Chapter 64: Mother (2)

“How did you guys end up this thin after going overseas to attend summer camps?”

Lin Xin replied, “The American food is no good, every day eating potatoes.”

Aunt Hui smiled, clapped her hands twice, and reiterated: “Later on, let daddy make you braised pork to eat every day, look at how thin you are.” Then, she asked Lin Xin Yu, “Did you bully your younger sister while mother wasn’t around?”

Lin Xinyu blanched, glanced at Lin Xin who was by his side.

“I didn’t.”

“Boys should be this way, they have to properly give way to their little sister in anything and everything, oho.”

At this moment, Cheng Qingrong took the wheelchair from Xiao Fang’s hand, bent down and whispered into Aunt Hui’s ear, “Enough now, you’re not in a good condition. I’ll push you to your room to have a rest.”

Aunt Hui pouted, hardly willing, and Cheng Qingrong added, “The two kids just got off the plane and they need to rest. It’s bad for their body if they’re too tired.”

Aunt Hui, hearing what Cheng Qingrong had to say, immediately stopped stirring a fuss, allowing Cheng Qingrong to push her to her room.

Reaching the entrance, she suddenly turned her head to ask Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu: “Why didn’t either of you call for me once you’d come back? Is it that you’re feeling uncomfortable somewhere?”

Lin Xin startled, then looked at the expectant Cheng Qingrong who was waiting for her call. Thinking to herself that all she had to do was call out ‘mom’ and everything would be fine, she tried to open her mouth but was unable to.

She had a father and mother, how could she agree to call other people ‘father’ or ‘mother’?

Before coming to this house, she had already made up her mind to treat this as only a temporary deal.

She and Lin Xinyu would thoroughly play the part of their son and daughter, in exchange for him providing them with school and fast medical care.

If their relationship was good, when he was old, they could give them pensions for them to live out the rest of their lives in retirement. However, if they only had a normal relationship with each other, then when she got rich, they’d give them a sum of money and be on their merry way.

Everything was simple and neat in her plan.

Now though, with things coming to a head, it became clear they weren’t anywhere as simple as she thought.

She was too naive. It was only a single form of address but she couldn’t do it. She couldn’t get past the barrier in her heart.

She was not her mother, and neither could Lin Xin see her as a mother. Her long period of hypocrisy in dealing with people made her miserable.

Lin Xin took a step back and bumped into Lin Xinyu behind her. She looked at him.

The child’s illness could not be delayed any longer, and she had to explain the misunderstanding to Cheng Qingrong.

She was about to open her mouth and shout, ‘Mom…‘

“Mom.” Lin Xinyu shouted.

The sound, ‘mom’, was very pleasant to the ears.

It was faint, but full of feelings, as if from a child that had been separated from their parents for a long time and had finally returned to their mother’s embrace, even carrying a bit of willfulness.

Lin Xin and Chen Qingrong were both stunned, they did not expect that Lin Xinyu, who was shy and did not speak much, would call Aunt Hui ‘mother’ so well.

A relieved smile finally bloomed on Cheng Qingrong’s previously rigid face.

He beckoned Lin Xinyu, “Little Yuan, Little Yuan, come here quickly. Come here and hug your mom.”

Aunt Hui’s originally pained eyes suddenly lit up as she looked at Lin Xinyu.

“Little Yuan, come to mom.”

Lin Xinyu did not dare to step forward. He looked at Lin Xin and asked her through eye contact, “What should we do?”

Right now, Lin Xin couldn’t come up with any good ideas, so she simply nodded at him.

Lin Xinyu stepped forward and placed his hands on Aunt Hui’s knees, hugging her waist.

He’d noticed the panic hidden in Lin Xin’s eyes, and knew how she was afraid of making contact with Aunt Hui.

It was just like how she didn’t want to come into contact with the children of the orphanage.

She would always hide far away from them in a place where no one else would find her.

If she didn’t like it, let him do it for her. In the past, when the dean was there, he hated him a lot, but he didn’t dare to resist and had to pretend that he didn’t care. After a while, it became less uncomfortable. It wasn’t that hard to act as if he liked someone.

“Mom,” He shouted again.

Aunt Hui excitedly hugged him, then raised his face and looked at him for a while.

“Is the wound still painful? It’s fine now. It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s all good, it’s mother’s fault, it’s mother’s fault, don’t blame mother. Mom is afraid of your pain, how can Mom bear to see you suffer every day. Mom is sorry…” As she spoke, she began to cry, her tears streaming down her face.

“Mom is sorry,” The more she said, the more incoherent she became. Suddenly, she stood up, threw off Lin Xinyu and ran straight towards the wall.

Lin Xin, seeing how the situation went sour, jumped forward and made a grab at Aunt Hui, but she slipped away.

A bright idea struck her. She used her body to block the wall that Aunt Hui was about to crash into.

“Lin Xin!” Lin Xinyu exclaimed.

It was too late to stop Aunt Hui. She hit her head on Lin Xin’s chest.

Lin Xin felt her consciousness fade away as her chest began to hurt. Her whole body was like a pile of mud, slowly sliding down the wall.

On the other side, after Cheng Qingrong injected into her a dose of sedatives, Aunt Hui lost consciousness and was pushed back to her room with the nurse’s support.

“Lin Xin, Lin Xin…” Lin Xinyu hugged her and shouted anxiously.
