Chapter 132: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (31)

For these nobles, if one of their people worked for another as slaves, that was a shameful thing.

Shu Nuan lifted her head, saw their various expressions, then lowered her eyes and answered, “Just a casual job.”

Before they could say anything more, Shu Nuan put down the bowl and chopsticks and whispered to the man beside her, “Your Highness, I have some work to do. I’ll go first.”

For the first time, she did not care what Sheng Qianmo had to say. She got up and turned away.

In response, Ningcheng Yuan acted innocent and poured himself a cup of wine. He muttered, “I didn’t say anything wrong…”

Ji Xili said, “Maybe she really had something to do.”

But a few of the people here came to a similar conclusion, their eyes coming to rest upon Sheng Qianmo one after another. Sheng Qianmo finished drinking his wine with a sunken face and looked back at them with indifferent eyes.

“I brought her here to let you officially know that there is such a person around me. Don’t think This Prince doesn’t know your thoughts. But if you wish to deny her, remember that it is something only I can do.”

Sheng Qianmo finished speaking, then got up and left.

Su Huang poured himself a glass of wine and smiled at the people sitting at table as if celebrating.

“Didn’t you hear it? Sheng Qianmo has introduced her to several of us. The meaning is obvious…”

Ji Xili stared at Su Huang, the look in his eyes obvious to her. In the end she poured wine for herself and drank it. Bitter, she wanted to cry but somehow resisted the urge.

When Shu Nuan came out of the restaurant, the street was brightly lit and lively. Although she walked to a place with few people, it didn’t take long before she was grabbed by an unknown person from behind. Shu Nuan turned back, looked up calmly at the man. She broke away from his hands again and again, trying so hard, but even after a long struggle, her hand would be easily grabbed again, as though the other person was mocking her insignificant strength.

The man picked her up, carrying her to the bank of the river. He let her down and looked at her in silence for a while before speaking.

“You don’t have to take their words seriously.”

Shu Nuan nodded.

“Is there anything else, Your Highness?”

Sheng Qianmo stared at her without talking, and his eyes turned gloomier.

Shu Nuan understood that Sheng Qianmo was angry with her again. She bowed her head, letting her small hand be pinched by his big hand. She could only bite her lip and say nothing.

“When you were pleading under This Prince’s horse, you didn’t have this attitude. Now you go to the academy and feel that you’re superior?”

Sheng Qianmo did not know if he was being too angry with this little thing. She didn’t see that he’d intended to come and coax her, and she’d been cold with this attitude instead. He wasn’t a patient man, and on top of that, he’d drunk a lot of wine and was gloomy. Therefore, he’d said those harsh words to her.

However, Shu Nuan looked up at him with wide eyes. Her eyes glistened with tears, and she stared at him for a while as she cried. In the end, she knelt down in front of him. Tears flowing, she said, “No, I have always known my place. Your Highness and Shu Nuan, we two have always been like this.”

He stood while she knelt.

This had always been the case.
