Chapter 140 : Deceiving Uncle Sheng (39)

Sheng Qianmo paused and glanced at the little girl lying on his shoulder. “Do you know how stupid you were to work in a place like the Moon pavilion?”

Shu Nuan’s eyes turned red again, and she softly refuted, “I was admitted to Class One. I am not stupid…”

Sheng Qianmo sneered. “On the contrary, you talk back.”

Shu Nuan gave him a warm hug and coaxed, “Don’t be angry.”

Sheng Qianmo was appeased by her soft little hand, and his mind suddenly calmed down.

“Shu Nuan,” he whispered.

“Hmm?”

“This Prince thought for a moment. It was my own fault.” Sheng Qianmo glanced at the little girl next to his neck. She was looking at the sunrise with clear, bright eyes. He looked back at the road and muttered, “Because I did not make you feel secure enough, you chose not to believe in me.”

Shu Nuan eyelids hung in silence.

Her nose felt somewhat sour.

Slowly, she sniffled.

She seems to be…..

It had never occurred to her that Sheng Qianmo would say such a thing.

She did not forget both of their identities.

But still, he had told her this.

He had said that he did not do well enough to make her feel secure and that is why she didn’t believe him.

Sheng Qianmo added, “But This Prince hopes you will remember that you are one of my people, and no one is entitled to touch you except me. Do you understand?”

Shu Nuan snorted softly, not letting go of his neck.

After entering the palace, Sheng Qianmo let her bathe in hot water. Afterward, she put on her bed clothes and began reading on the couch. She hadn’t been this comfortable for a while.

When Sheng Qianmo came from the library, he saw the little girl lying on the couch. She had changed into a blue silk night-dress that revealed her white neckline. He went over and touched her hair: damp, soft, and fragrant.

Sheng Qianmo dried her hair with a thin cloth while glancing at the book she was reading. He casually asked, “Will there be another examination in a few days?”

“Yes,” Shu Nuan answered, feeling awfully comfortable as Sheng Qianmo ran his slender finger through her hair. From time to time, he would gently knead it.

But then Sheng Qianmo asked, “Move back here?”

Shu Nuan paused.

“Also, quit the job. After all, you have to pass the exam. You can study hard at the Sheng Courtyard.”

Shu Nuan frowned slightly and sat up straight. She looked at Sheng Qianmo for a while, before she said, “Your Highness… Boss’s wife is very kind to me, and I can learn something there. I promise it won’t affect the examination.”

The most important thing was that she didn’t want to look at Sheng Qianmo’s face with trepidation like before. She hoped that she could stand on her own two feet, even if such a job was trivial for Sheng Qianmo. She hoped to do something on her own, that she could leave room for everything, instead of pinning all her hopes on Sheng Qianmo.

Sheng Qianmo face sank slightly. He put down his hand and looked at her but said nothing.

Shu Nuan sensed that he was somewhat angry. She didn’t stay silent like before. Instead, she stretched out her hand and pulled at his sleeve, wanting to say something.
