Chapter 163: Deceiving Uncle Sheng (62)
Wen Zhigu moved to pour some water into a cup, but Shu Nuan held down her hand and frowned. “Sit down and rest,” she said.
Wen Zhigu didn’t force the matter. She nodded and sat down.
“Did Ji Xubai humiliate you yesterday?”
Wen Zhigu shook her head. Although Ji Xubai had been removed from his post, when he’d come to see her, he hadn’t shown any displeasure. He’d been tender almost, much unlike the past. For her, this was good. She had suffered a lot by his hand, but he’d seldom touched her ever since she’d become pregnant.
Of course, this didn’t mean this pervert hadn’t already done enough to merit the title of a monster.
So after hearing her, Shu Nuan didn’t ask any more questions about Ji Xubai. Instead, she relayed to Wen Zhigu what she’d talked about with Teacher Li.
“I told him that I hope you will go with me but that I needed to ask you first. Since you know the culture there, would you like to go?
Wen Zhigu hesitated for a moment and then mumbled, “Yu… Shuicheng?”
Shu Nuan nodded.
Wen Zhigu wasn’t against leaving the capital. Although it was only a temporary leave, she would be able to catch her breath away from Ji Xubai. But she wasn’t sure if Ji Xubai would let her go. After all, he watched her movements like a jailer.
Wen Zhigu was silent for a moment and said, “I’m not sure if I can go.”
“Are you worried about Ji Xubai won’t let you? This would be a decision made by the academy. As long as they let us go, he cannot change anything.”
Wen Zhigu knew this, but if Ji Xubai would not agree, she would not be able to go. After all, he still had power over her, even if he wasn’t a teacher at the academy anymore.
Thinking about this, Wen Zhigu went on to say, “Nuan, I’ll come to the academy tomorrow and give you an answer there.”
Since Shu Nuan did not know what Wen Zhigu’s concern was, she nodded and agreed.
That night, Ji Xubai brought the imperial physician to diagnose Wen Zhigu’s pulse.
Ji Xubai cared about the fate of the child in her belly.
Wen Zhigu was lying on the bed, musing over the irony.
She remembered when he’d gotten her pregnant for the first time. She had told him with such uneasiness and fear. However, he had just told her to abort the child and forbade her from bringing such trivial matters to him in the future.
Now that it was her last chance to give birth, he had begun to care about the child in her belly.
After the medical examination, she was confirmed to be in good health. Then the imperial physician left.
Ji Xubai touched her forehead and said, “It’s not hot.”
Wen Zhigu mentioned to him what Shu Nuan had told her.
He raised his eyebrows slightly, and said, “You want to go to Yu Shuicheng?”
She lowered her eyes and replied, “I want to go for a break.”
Ji Xubai pinched her chin and lifted her face.
“Do you not like being around me?”
Wen Zhigu was forced to look straight into his eyes as she calmly said, “Yes.”
Hearing her, Ji Xubai narrowed his eyes, and it seemed as though a grim look had flashed through them. A moment later, his half-smile returned.
“Is that why you want to leave me?”
Wen Zhigu’s eyelashes quivered. She whispered, “I’m just leaving to collect information about Yu Shuicheng, and then I’ll be back.”
“What about my child?” Ji Xubai stared down at her, his eyes cold, cruel. “What if, because of you, an accident befalls my unborn child?”
Wen Zhigu stared at him. A malicious voice couldn’t help but rise up in the back of her mind.
‘This child is better off dead.’
She didn’t want the child at all. Not when it was his.
