Chapter 39 – My Little Girl (29)

“That’s why she is a two-faced person,” Qi Yue snorted.

Jing Fei, who ran alongside him, heard what they had said and knitted his brows. “You should say less things that would lead to trouble, and be careful Master doesn’t hear you.”

“This young master is not afraid. I didn’t do anything wrong!”

As Qi Yue had spoken up, he suddenly realized that Shu Nuan had not said anything from beginning to end. He turned to look at her running silently beside him. He could not help but utter, “We don’t believe that princess. We can see who you are.”

Su Hai also chimed in with him, “Yes! We believe in you!”

In the end, Shu Nuan said two words in a low voice, “Thank you.”

However, Jing Fei explained reasonably, “It is useless to say these words. Princess Gu said these words in front of Tenth Class. Shu Nuan will definitely be affected. Yulin Academy attaches great importance to the reputation of students. Hence Shu Nuan should explain this matter to Master Gao.”

“En,” Shu Nuan agreed but didn’t say much else.

It came as no surprise that Sheng Gu passed out after just two laps.

Master Gao sent someone to take Sheng Gu to see the Royal Physician, but did not let others stop.

Shu Nuan’s physique was not much better: she began to clench her teeth after several laps and was nearing collapse.

Professor Gao left behind Qi Yue and the other three stood outside the hall, while he called Shu Nuan to the library.

“Shu Nuan, I know the truth about you. Although you are under Prince Sheng, your intellectual ability is really no worse than the rest of the Tenth Class. But you have to know one thing. It is another thing altogether for these students to know the truth. The impact will be extremely bad. Most importantly, this incident was caused by none other than Princess Gu.” Master Gao paused, then continued, “As your teacher, I think you should go home to avoid suspicion and not come to the academy for the time being.”

Shu Nuan was silent for a while. She only nodded and didn’t say anything.

Master Gao wanted to say something to ease her mood, but in the end, he sighed and said, “You can go back after today’s class.”

Shu Nuan nodded and left.

When she returned to the Tenth Class, the students inside the hall looked at her with varying emotions. Some of them were surprised; others disdainful, scoffing, or laughing. After all, she hadn’t been a student here for long. Only Qi Yue and the others held confidence in her, while the rest disliked her because of her now-revealed identity of a slave.

After the class, Shu Nuan gathered her things. She did not tell them that she could not come to the academy for the time being. She just said goodbye to them and left.

Sheng Gu was drinking her medicine on the carriage while thinking of what Master Gao had said. Knowing Shu Nuan could no longer go to the academy, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, a strong wind blew a corner of the curtain open, catching Sheng Gu off guard. An ear-piercing screech was heard as sharp claws ruthlessly swiped across Sheng Gu’s face. She let out a miserable scream of pain, fainting for the second time that day…

The falcon flew back to the shoulders of a young man dressed in temple robes. The young man snorted coldly and uttered a few words, “Ah’Qi, let’s go.”

***

Since Sheng Gu was scratched in the face by a falcon on her way back to the manor, she could not go to the academy the coming days.

With a veil covering her face, she spent two days angry and crying. She always felt unlucky. The more she thought, the more she realised how the source of her recent bad luck had been Shu Nuan. So after two days of staying put, Sheng Gu could not help but go look for Shu Nuan to cause trouble.

And Ah’Bi even thought up a good reason—she could make an issue regarding the clothes Shu Nuan had made before.
