Chapter 58 – My Little Girl (48)

Master Gao had called everyone who had taken part in the play. With a satisfied look he tapped Jing Fei’s and Shu Nuan’s shoulders. While suppressing his laughter, he said, “Everyone did a good job. The Headmaster came to tell all the teachers that the emperor gave our play a high evaluation!”

A student cried out with excitement, “Will master be giving us a reward?”

He responded to the student’s words with a helpless nod. “You’ll all have tomorrow off. Come back to the academy the day after!”

Hearing his words, everyone cheered. Someone even yelled, “Long live Master Gao!”

As a result, Master Gao didn’t know where to draw the ruler, and rebuked the guy. “His Majesty is sitting in the audience! Don’t talk nonsense again. It seems you don’t want a holiday tomorrow.”

The crowd laughed, and Master Gao left with his roughened temper.

After he left, Shu Nuan had to go find Sheng Qianmo. She was still quite afraid the prince would get angry from waiting for a long time. As she came out from Master Gao’s room, Jing Fei followed behind, and called out to her. “Shu Nuan?”

Shu Nuan heard someone call her name and looked back to find Jing Fei.

“Going back?” Jing Fei had noticed the direction she was heading in didn’t lead to the performance stage.

Shu Nuan nodded. “Yes.”

Jing Fei seemed to hesitate and think over something, but in the end, couldn’t help but mutter, “I just heard a classmate say he saw you with your uncle when he went to call you over. Is that right?”

Shu Nuan didn’t try to conceal the truth and nodded. “Yes.”

Jing Fei gazed at her, at a loss for the moment. He didn’t know what to say.

“What’s the matter?” she asked.

The boy wanted to say something but couldn’t put it into words. In the end, Su Hai jumped out of his hiding place behind a stone statue, and shouted in an anxious voice, “Jing Fei, get out of my way!”

Jing Fei took a calm step to the side.

Qi Yue walked over as well and stood in front of Shu Nuan. “We have a holiday tomorrow. Do you want to hang out with us?”

Shu Nuan stared at him with a blank face.

“Some of our classmates said they were going out to have fun. Will you come or not?”

Shu Nuan showed displeasure as she asked, “Must I go?”

Su Hai glared at her. “What’s with your attitude? You don’t want to go?”

Shu Nuan was not reluctant, at most she was just worried. She muttered, “I’ll have to ask… my uncle first.”

Even Qi Yue knitted his brows. “Is your uncle strict in taking care of you?”

Shu Nuan nodded.

In spite of Sheng Qianmo’s continued kindness toward her, she didn’t want to make a decision by herself. He was generous right now, but if she offended him, her life would become miserable.

Su Hai snorted and blurted out, “That’s fine then! If you want to come with us, be at the academy tomorrow early in the morning.”

“Yes.”

After bidding them goodbye, Shu Nuan thought how the prince must be furious already. As she trotted along towards the academy exit, Sheng Lingyun unexpectedly appeared in an archway and stopped her in the corridor.

The Seventh Prince had drank a lot of wine. Blocking the little girl’s path, he looked at her with an intoxicated gaze. His eyes were a window to his unscrupulous thoughts: blatant and undisguised desire.

Shu Nuan’s eyes darkened. She was about to walk past him, but was caught off guard as Sheng Lingyun grabbed her wrist. She bored at him with a cold gaze.

The gaze gave Sheng Lingyun a different feeling than usual.
