Gu Yezhi embraced Bai Qingyan gently, his hands sweeping small circles on her back in an attempt to soothe her. He uttered in a low voice, “It’s alright, I’m here.”

Bai Qingyan raised her head and looked at him with tearful eyes. Voice rough from crying, she pleaded, “Yezhi, you’ll always be by my side, right?”

She didn’t want to lose him or see his bloody appearance ever again. She knew she had done many wrongs but God still gave her a second chance. She wouldn’t waste it.

Gu Yezhi’s heart clenched when he saw her eyes filled with tears, he couldn’t stand seeing her looking so desolate. He hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Do you need me? Bai Qingyan, do you want me?”

Gu Yezhi stunned her for a moment. She didn’t expect him to ask such a question. He was always so high and mighty, so confident, never putting anyone in his eyes. And now, suddenly, he asked that kind of question, as if he doubted himself.

Did she… make him feel that she didn’t love him?

Bai Qingyan’s long eyelashes flickered, a remnant of her tears glittering in the faint light. She took a deep breath and said, sincerely, “Yezhi, I love you.”

Gu Yezhi’s breath hitched in his throat.

He knew this was a lie, knew that she said that with a purpose. But his emotions were in turmoil, his heartbeat was faster from his excitement. Even if it was a lie, as long as it was from her, he would willingly fall into her trap.

He tightened his embrace on Bai Qingyan, held her face and kissed her wildly.

Bai Qingyan already knew he’d kiss her like that. It’s what he always did in the previous life whenever she made him happy. Back then, at first she’d resist because deep down she liked Gu Hang. But she eventually fell in love with Gu Yezhi’s kiss.

Bai Qingyan’s lips were curved in a small smile, while her eyes almost sparkled in delight. This feeling… It was like her Gu Yezhi, the Gu Yezhi who cherished her so much, had returned.

When the car arrived in the villa, Gu Yezhi got out of it while carrying Bai Qingyan in his arms. He was a bit distressed with her reddened cheeks, the result of her altercation with her cousin.

When Bai Xiaojin slapped Bai Qingyan, she had been caught off-guard. He looked sideways at his dear wife’s face and noticed a faint imprint of Bai Xiaojin’s fingers.

Thankfully, she hadn’t caused great damage to Bai Qingyan’s face, since Bai Xiaojin liked to play the piano and kept her nails trimmed short. Otherwise, Bai Qingyan’s face would have looked like she’d been attacked by a cat.

Still, Gu Yezhi was perturbed.

He carried Bai Qingyan back to their room, setting her down before accepting a hot towel from a servant. Then, he personally started treating her face.

The more he looked at the damage that woman inflicted on his wife’s face, the angrier he got. Gu Yezhi frowned and gritted his teeth, feeling like he shouldn’t have let Bai Xiaojin off so easily.

His eyes darkened as the servant sensed the mood in the room and hastily retreated, closing the door behind him.

Bai Qingyan got up from Gu Yezhi’s lap, pushing aside the towel he held to her face. She reached for him, holding his face firmly between her hands. This time was going to be different, she was going to cherish every moment she had with Gu Yezhi.

“Doesn’t it hurt?” He asked, staring at her intently as if trying to read her thoughts. Bai Qingyan did not answer, though, merely smiled at him, leaned over and kissed him of her own volition. Her cheeks were flushed red, she was still shy even after being kissed by him so many times.

“Ah… ” Gu Yezhi laughed, feeling like his heart was lighter. “Seems like you’re more anxious than me.”

Bai Qingyan heard those words and couldn’t help but feel angry and ashamed. She took the first step but he laughed at her! Pushing him away with what strength she could muster, she jumped out of bed then ran straight towards the bathroom, slamming the door closed.

When Gu Yezhi heard the door close with a bang, he stood up, a smile growing at the corners of his lips. His little wife was so amusing. He reached for his shirt buttons, removing it.

He gave the bathroom door a symbolic knock then pushed it open, fully intending to intrude upon her self-imposed exile. Inside the bathroom was his wife, his lawful wife.
