The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 75.1
Derrick leaned against the wall, looking out the extension window. The sight before his eyes was refreshing. However, the neurosis did not go away, because it was worth concentrating on the closed door to the living room. Judith no longer looked like a person, more like a faded ghost from whom all the vitality had been sucked. And the appearance of the Duchess worried Derrick extremely much.
Now the demon felt sorry, unable to help his wife. Stupidly lowering his hands, he sighed heavily, realizing this fact.
– I should have done this earlier…
Derrick blamed himself for what had happened. He needed to find Hannibal immediately after the Emperor was removed from the list of possible candidates. After all, there are only two of them left. And although even now he wanted to do it, he simply could not: because of what happened with Judith. One wrong action could put her life in danger.
And although the demon usually acts flawlessly, without any disorder or problems in his affairs, Judith’s safety came first. Even if the Duke sometimes misbehaved, he never forgot about it. And why he did not go to fight Hannibal as soon as his strength was restored was also connected with Judith.
“When you catch Hannibal, you will have to leave this place,” he remembered the words of his servants.
In the end, the deal had already been kept: Judith was pregnant, and the forces were in place. All that remained was Hannibal’s death, after which Derrick could simply break the curse and leave the human world.
Of course, the demon himself understood that he needed to leave. He is the future King of his world, and Judith is an ordinary person. But something still haunted Derrick. He just wanted to look at his wife a little more: how she laughs and how she cries. But it was this small selfish feeling that ultimately led to irreparable consequences. And now Derrick had no choice but to admit it.
The demon remembered the Duchess’s face when she found out about her own pregnancy. She received the desired reward for the work done. And the only thing left between them is Hannibal. Once he dies, the deal is over. In other words, the connection between two people will be severed without a trace.
Derrick’s heart felt heavy again. When he lived as the devil, he never experienced such emotions. But as soon as he entered the human body, the Duke immediately felt what grief and sadness meant. Now it was difficult to cope and cope with this feeling. At first, Derrick chalked it up only to Duke’s weakness of mind and body, but soon the emotions grew into something more.
Suddenly a black shadow appeared outside the window. Derrick immediately straightened up. However, at that moment, a terrible explosive sound and the amazed voice of the Marquise were heard outside the door. Derrick, mastering his own anxiety, hurriedly opened the door.
– Duke! What’s happening?
At that moment, Derrick discovered Judith squatting, as if hiding, on the corner seat next to the sofa. She seemed to want to hide in this small and narrow space. Amazed, the demon immediately went to his wife and touched her shoulders. She was shaking so much that it looked more like convulsions.
– Why did this happen so suddenly? – the Marquis’s wife asked embarrassedly.
– What happened?
“I don’t know… I just got up, getting ready to leave, when the Duchess suddenly found herself in such a state,” the Marquise looked extremely surprised, as if she didn’t understand what was happening.
But now Derrick paid almost no attention to her, carefully examining his wife.
“Judith,” he called to her as the chills intensified.
And at that moment the demon was speechless, noticing the precious stone he had made with special care. Noticing the darkening on it, Derrick’s heart flared up, as if it was ready to throw lightning right here and now. When Lucas jokingly attacked Judith, no major changes occurred. It seemed that at that moment Derrick had assimilated with his wife.
This is exactly what the stone looked like during the last attack, when Judith was in danger. The Duchess felt exactly the same feeling. The girl’s pupils were covered with red irises. This was evidence that she had been attacked by dark magic.
And although Judith’s eyes were open, they saw something completely different: a terrible and frightening hallucination. This is exactly how the Duchess felt during the hunt. Sighing heavily, Derrick clenched his jaw and covered the girl’s eyes with his hand.
“Don’t look,” he whispered, trying to protect his wife from pain.
He poured soothing magic over Judith’s body, who was shaking uncontrollably. Gradually, when the Duchess’s condition improved, she leaned on the demon and hugged him. And only at this moment, when Derrick was about to leave the room, he remembered the Marquis’s wife, who had been watching the situation all this time.
The girl is a valuable guest, but the demon could not allow himself to see her off.
“Perhaps you will have to return home now.”
