Chapter 5: In a Wolf’s Mouth

Lu Qiu felt she would immediately die in the next second.

Although Pickley was fast enough when he made his escape, it was obvious from one glance that the jackals were faster than wolves. In addition, they also had the advantage of numbers. Moreover, with his huge body size, Pickley was basically unable to show any superiority in this forest. Therefore, it only took ten minutes before he was surrounded by the jackals from all directions.

With no other way out, the fight started fiercely. However, though it was said to be a fight, clearly it was just a one-sided beat down.

Or it should be like that, but Pot didn’t want to kill Pickley so quickly. No. What he wanted was to torture him slowly. So, he would experience the pain and despair he felt when his cub was taken and sold.

Soon, Pickley’s body was filled with wounds that bled profusely. However, that didn’t kill him. It only made the scene extremely bloody to look at. Not only that, the bloody scent had also started to become stronger and stronger.

It increased so much to the point it had almost completely suppressed the natural scent of the forest surrounding them. Meanwhile, Lu Qiu was shaking by the wolf’s side, in a state of extreme shock.

In these short ten minutes, she had finally understood the truth.

The wolf didn’t eat her not because it had no time to, but because she was not his food in the first place. After all, she was already in his mouth. Therefore, if he wanted to eat her, he would only need to swallow and she’d be eaten. Besides, it was already too late for her to escape even if he wanted to do that.

However, despite her realization, it was useless right now. She could do nothing in this fight and was only being a burden to Pickley, yet he still took her with him.

Due to that, Pickley could only fight back with his claws and not with his fangs. Because he wanted to protect her, who was in his mouth, thus he couldn’t open his mouth to bite his enemies. As such, he got more and more injured.

“Woo.” The uncontrollably painful voice could be heard, coming from the depth of his throat. However, Pickley still persisted and not let her go, protecting her.

However, because he was unable to bear the pain, his tongue and upper jaw unconsciously loosened a little from its former state of being firmly shut.

Noticing this, Lu Qiu quickly rolled toward the thick wolf teeth, positioning herself in the part between. Her arms tightly held the teeth to prevent herself from being thrown away.

Unfortunately for both of them, after torturing Pickley for a while, Pot discovered his abnormality. Pot noticed his enemy hadn’t once opened his mouth to fight back during their battle.

“He has something in his mouth! Go attack it, now!” Pot ordered.

Hearing that order, the surrounding jackals immediately turned around and positioned themselves to attack Pickley’s mouth.

And though Pickley wanted to scold Pot with a few choice words, he was afraid to expose Lu Qiu’s existence. Furthermore, these jackals were a race that was much more brutal than him. Their first reaction should they happen to see a hairless monkey wasn’t whether they could sell it or not, but whether it could be eaten or not.

And once the hairless monkey died, he not only would lose a lot of money, but it also meant something even more frightening. It meant Earl of Wells would be offended because he had failed to deliver what he wanted. And he could only imagine his state at that time. It surely would be far worse than his current condition!

Thinking of the terrible consequences that awaited him should he fail… Pickley, who was already wounded, could care less about the pain he felt at the moment. Hence, he jumped forward from his current position.

He didn’t expect he could resist. Therefore, he could only attempt to escape. Fortunately, his unexpected movement was successful since the jackals that originally aimed at Pickley’s mouth missed their target.

As soon as Pot saw the useless two fail, he cursed and chose to chase Pickley himself.

And since Pickley was in a severely injured state, while he was still perfectly healthy, Pot was able to quickly catch up with him. Almost with no effort at that. He then extended his claws from the bottom to the top, aiming precisely at the indescribably fragile spot of Pickley’s rear.

“Ooooo !!”

In an instant, Pickley felt everything freeze before he registered the pain. When he finally felt the pain, a high-pitch scream that couldn’t be restrained tore itself out from his throat, echoing in the sky. Pickley’s moment instantly stopped as he was thrown from his stable position, falling directly to the ground as he rolled himself into a ball. All he felt right now was pain and even more pain.

In the meantime, Lu Qiu was already on the verge of collapse.

Pickley’s mouth was just too much. It secreted too much saliva for her to be able to stand stably; since her legs and feet were soaked in the saliva, making it easy for her to slip. So, when he suddenly opened his mouth, Lu Qiu couldn’t help but to loosen her hand. Then, the next thing she knew she was already dumped out.

Pickley had escaped for so long, but even then, he still didn’t manage to escape to the inner wall. Fortunately, he had entered the forest area. Since that was the case, when Lu Qiu was dumped out of his mouth, she was lucky enough to have the thick leaves on the ground cushioning her fall.

Therefore, she didn’t get hurt too much. Moreover, her old injuries from the night prior were also all healed when she regained her awareness. And she presumed it was the wolf’s doing. As such, from the series of events, she concluded that the wolf was actually not planning to kill her, but was saving her instead.

Despite that though, Lu Qiu still didn’t plan to stay behind and help the wolf. All she wanted to do was to withdraw behind the fallen leaves and slowly waited for the opportunity to run away. However, before she could cover herself with the fallen leaves, she was already held down by a huge paw covered with brown-red hair.

Not only the claw was wider than her back, but the force it exerted to press her down to the ground almost made her unable to breathe.

Without any regard to Pickley, who was crying in pain and sorrow, Pot focused on Lu Qiu. He looked quite puzzled when he saw her, turning her over and over again as he examined her carefully.

Is this a mutated hairless monkey? But it’s so small… It seems like it was still a cub.

However, this cub’s flesh was very tender. One would hardly need to chew when they bite her. Not only that, when his paw lightly touched Lu Qiu’s arm, a red liquid immediately burst out. And it smelled quite fresh, making Pot immediately drooled.
