Chapter 8: Going Home

Fortunately, Lu Qiu could swim.

The moment she fell into the water, she thumped her limbs to prevent herself from sinking further.

The river wasn’t muddy, but the water was as cold as the ice that had been left outdoors all night during winter. That little bit of coldness turned into needles and spread throughout her limbs. She couldn’t help but shake violently underwater.

After a while, her arms and legs were frozen and gone a little numb. Lu Qiu could feel her legs began to cramp slowly.

But the river was too wide. The place where she was dropped was not that far from the bank, but when she swam, she noticed that the distance was far enough. It was more than fifty meters, and fifty meters at this time seemed to be as far as the sky to her.

Her leg suddenly began to ache violently, and Lu Qiu curled up into a ball like a shrimp. She wanted to touch her leg, but as soon as her hand stopped paddling, her body began to sink.

Her face was as pale as a ghost.

Lu Qiu frantically tried to get up, but her arms were frozen, numb, and stiff. It refused to be lifted, so she couldn’t lift her arms at all.

While she was struggling, the giant cat stood on a tall branch by the river and looked at her quietly. His amber eyes glowed like gemstones in the sunlight that had just risen in the morning. Beautiful but cold without any trace of warmth.

In a trance, Lu Qiu had some illusions. It was unclear whether everything she had experienced until now had truly existed or was only her hallucination.

The coldness in her body slowly dissipated, and she felt warmth rising throughout her limbs.

This warmth made her want to sleep well.

The pain in her leg had disappeared after she woke up. Lu Qiu closed her eyes again and stretched her limbs.

She seemed to have returned to her warm bed at home.

Just after she fell into the water, she heard a clear meowing sound from the shore. Only for a moment, then it quickly disappeared like an illusion.

At the same time the meowing sound fell, a long, two-meters-thick log from the bottom of the river suddenly moved.

The log shook off and slowly went upstream.

Looking closer, it was actually a water snake. Its body was earth-colored, but you could see its long red abdomen.

The snake’s body was extremely long. It was spiraling. Almost no sound could be heard when it swam, and only a shallow ripple could be seen on the water surface.

Slowly, it swam to the place where Lu Qiu is. As if measuring something, it’s sturdy body circled around her. It touched her body but withdrew quickly. The tail then curled to wrap Lu Qiu up, then the snake jumped to the surface of the water like a dragon. Its tail flicked upward.

Lu Qiu was thrown into the air.

Right before she fell into the water again, the giant cat who had been standing silently on the branch suddenly jumped towards the water.

He did not stretch his claws this time but stretched his body. With his thick and soft back, he directly caught Lu Qiu who was about to fall.

After catching the person, Wells did not fall into the water because of inertia as expected. He floated magically one meter above the water as if there was no air but a transparent step at his feet.

The snake resurfaced and vomited something. Lu Qiu saw that the red pattern on its abdomen was more gorgeous in the early morning sunlight. The snake’s tail flicked while throwing up some transparent monster fishes. They were more than one meter long and were thrown up one after another.

Wells didn’t even look at the fish. He swung his big tail, with its hair so thick as the size of her body, and touched the water surface then quickly lifted it up again. Splashing the water.

He soaked the paw that had previously grasped Lu Qiu into the water and rinsed it carefully. After rinsing his paw, he leaned his nose closer to it and sniffed, frowned in disgust, then soaked it into the water again.

The snake was not angry after being ignored. It looked up at him and said, “You don’t have to eat, but the little guy on your back needs to eat. This one looks like a monkey or more like an orangutan. Anyway, both groups are omnivorous, so you better pick some fruits for her. “

Wells pulled his paws out of the water for the second time. After confirming that the smell was no longer present, he squinted his eyes and licked his paws, especially the gap in between.

Later, he grabbed the end of a vine and stretched out his claw. With his ability, he merely jumped once to catch the fish in the river. The fish in his grip was flapping before it passed out, while he turned around and flew to the tree right after.

He flew, followed by his tail jumping out from the water. There was a big fish about one meter and five lengths hanging from the tip of the big fluffy tail. Its color was blueish silver. Its mouth formed an o-shape and was biting the tip of his tail.

Wells flicked his tail violently and took the giant fish to the surface. The water splashed, and the snake’s head moved aside to avoid the splashing water but could not dodge the fish that fell onto his head.

It was a gesture of gratitude.

Although every time, this kind of gesture made one feel speechless.

Grabbing the fish and returning to the tree, Wells plucked a leaf. The leaf was two meters long and very tough. It was more than enough to wrap the whole fish.

He wrapped the leaves casually, made sure not to loosen them, threw it on his back, and then quickly flew westward along the top of the forest.

Across the seemingly endless forest, in the northwest, a continuous mountain range could be vaguely seen. The scenery slowly turned into a low hillside, and further to the south, there was a large grassland.

A towering and simple huge stone castle stood on the hill that is neither high nor low. The entire building was more than seventy meters in height while the door was more than ten meters high.

No other buildings can be seen within the hundred-mile radius of this stone fort. It was like a remote island in the sea.

Wells walked straight in through the gate without stopping.
