The Duchess and the Devil - Chapter 79.2
This answer meant that Derrick would never come. If the demon escapes from the body after the curse, he will never be able to return here and meet with Judith. Now each of them must continue their lives separately.
Derrick slowly rose from the bed. There was no sense of aloofness in his appearance, hidden behind the darkness. Born in darkness, now returns to its rightful place. Judith wanted to let him go with a smile when she was contemplating breaking up earlier. But now I couldn’t.
Trying to wipe away all her tears, Judith smiled wryly. The demon looked at her for a long time, as if seeing through all the Duchess’s thoughts, after which he slowly turned away.
The sound of his departure left a deep imprint on the girl’s chest. The sound of a door closing, followed by silence. At that moment, a fire lit up near the bed – a sign of concern for Judith, who was afraid of the night.
The Duchess did not understand why there was such trepidation until the very end. It would be better if they parted on a rude note. But not like that. Judith lay on the bed, caressing her belly and humming songs. Suddenly the Duchess remembered the couple’s first night after the wedding. Then she felt the same loneliness, but her heart did not hurt so much and was not so sad.

The maids assumed that Derrick had returned to the capital on urgent business. But the Duchess herself spoke little these days and did not even try to look for him. That is why it was natural for everyone around to think this way. But only Judith knew that the demon had left this place forever.
The Duchess spent all her time on the terrace overlooking the sea. The villa was beautiful: from any point you could see beautiful blue waves. When Judith looked at this bright light, it seemed to her that she was drowning in water. At first glance it might seem that she felt better, but in reality the Duchess was in an even more unstable state. She still fell asleep in nightmares and sometimes had hallucinations in which others’ eyes turned red. Moreover, Judith has lost a lot of weight.
Sometimes the heart beat so fast, as if it was about to explode. Most of this happened when she remembered Derrick leaving. His loss, like a tranquilizer, filled her with deep fear. Judith personally felt a certain part of her mind being destroyed.
– Marie…
Suddenly the wind blew, causing Judith to call the maid. But there was no answer. Thinking that something unexpected had happened, the Duchess sighed and stood up, barely moving her weak body. When she walked along the corridor with windows at regular intervals, sometimes a terrible and eerie feeling would overtake her.
The mansion, which had seemed empty before, now felt completely abandoned. There were no visible knights spending time in the garden, and the corridor was quiet. Such a strange and unexpected silence gave me goosebumps.
Suddenly strange steps were heard from the opposite direction. The constant sound was too calm, unlike her racing heartbeat. A cold shadow crossed the corridor and grew in size, as if about to swallow Judith whole.
Gradually the distance between people was reduced, but the Duchess could not move…
“Judith,” her brother turned out to be an unexpected guest.
