Chapter 11 – Persistent Visitors (3)

At his words, there was a slight crack in Ishiel’s expression. Of course, she was aware of this fact — Clayo Asser had no friends to visit him at all.

None. She thought.

“If the case isn’t resolved by the time my health recovers, I’ll attend your summon. However, please don’t bother me anymore if it is settled before then.”

Jeongjin said as he looked up at Ishiel. He looked so incredibly weary of the world, unlike a normal 17-year-old boy.

However, how could a discouraged 32-year-old office staff, who suffered from overwork time and time again, looked happy when his only desire to have a carefree life was threatened?

The boy, who had cold sweat forming on his pale forehead, really looked sick.

Looking at him like this, the usually strong-willed Ishiel lost her conviction and couldn’t demand anything from Clayo anymore. However, she was still reluctant so she pursed her lips.

Noting that, Jeongjin smirked secretly, trying his best to look even more lethargic.

Now, look at me, and…

However, before he could persuade her further, there was a sudden disruption.

Bang!

Someone slammed the front door open, almost breaking it by its hinges, and ran into the living room.

“Clayo Asser, get up now!”

He said he didn’t have any friends. Yet, why is there another person aside from me looking for him today? Ishiel turned to the source of the noise, her eyes landing on another male student.

“Do you know how much I’ve been called around because you jumped into the river? Huh? Do you?! You looked so pitiful now you almost convinced me your acting is real!”

The big boy passed by Ishiel, not noticing her at all as he immediately jumped at Jeongjin. He seemed so angry and determined. Suddenly, a large, thick fist flew right towards Clayo’s face. It was a blow that could probably break off his nose if he couldn’t avoid it.

“Ugh, [Help me!]”

Before Ishiel could stop the boy, a golden semicircle that was filled with a complex pattern extended from Clayo’s body. Then, the boy’s strong fist bounced off against the magic circle boundary.

“Oh, AGH!!”

The boy screamed loudly, grabbing his hand in pain. Meanwhile, Ishiel gazed at Clayo over the semicircle of brilliant gold. And she placed her hand on the hilt of her sword in reflex, ready to strike if something went wrong.

Now, what do I do? She thought.

Even Jeongjin, who is unfamiliar with magic, would know right off the bat that this is a bad thing for him right now. After all, an unknown golden circle was spreading two meters far with him as the center. But there is no doubt that this sorcerer’s ‘circle’ was the one Jeongjin saw in the manuscript before he crossed over.

From what Jeongjin managed to gather, the magic circle is a field that extends in size proportionally with the ether level of the wizard. And within the circle, the wizard was able to manipulate magic that went beyond the usual laws of physics.

He also recalled the fact that only a very talented student would be able to start their first year with this kind of magic circle. However, to people who knew Clayo, this current situation was like seeing a lowest ranking student suddenly getting a perfect score on a mock test…

Right now, the Promise glittered with brilliance. And the circle seemed to appear as a defensive magic when there was an imminent threat to the owner.

… In order for a modern person to survive in a fantasy world, the system would arrange for him some insurance — a kind of cheat. I guess this is mine. Jeongjin thought.

It is clear for him now that it was this magic that saved him from drowning.

Thanks, but right now because of it, I’m in trouble. Can somebody turn it back? Is there any way?

At this moment, he was caught in the middle of his long-standing denial of magic when suddenly, some gold strings re-appeared in front of Clayo as if trying to find their way out. It felt hot against the back of his right hand.

Driven by a flight or fight impulse, Jeongjin instantly exclaimed in his mind. Yes, I’ll use it. I don’t know what it is, but I’ll use it!
