Chapter 5 : Strange Girl

「… Well, though it doesn’t seem like a threat to you, at least I want you to be wary of potential harassment. And while I don’t think that there will be a life threatening danger…still, please be very careful just in case.」

The headmaster told me and then left. Before leaving, he also told me that my uniform and textbook for this academy would be delivered by the end of today, so I didn’t need to worry about it.

And, since my transfer would be officially announced tomorrow, I should use the rest of the day to rest my body. From what I gathered, the announcement would be in the form of a light introduction during the usual morning assembly. Thankfully, the announcement would end after they called my name, so there’s no need for me to worry over this matter.

Considering the headmaster allowed me to stroll around the school now, I planned to do just what he suggested. After I had sorted out my luggage, of course.

I didn’t really bring much luggage with me, so it’d only take a while for me to sort it out. In the end, even after I had placed the book I had brought along into the bookshelves provided in the room, there was still so much space left. I mean, while I didn’t bring that much stuff, this place had almost everything I would ever need. Honestly, the space was wasted since I would likely not fill these spaces.

Well, considering I would live alone after I graduated from this academy. I might have to learn how to move around easily while having all my necessities in one bag.

…. Well then, since I was done sorting out my luggage, time to explore the academy.

The room’s key card was a type that was manufactured by sorcery…in short, I had to make sure that I didn’t lose this card since its used like a magic tool and the room would be locked automatically once its closed.

When I took the card that was placed on top of the desk in my room, there I saw my personal information recorded in it. Based on that, it looked like this thing also served as my student ID card as well.

I tried to look at the contents of the card, to know what it said…

「Ryuu Amapola. Origin : Rilante Kingdom, Eldest son of Viscount Amapola, 16 years old… Sorcerer Rank : Lower 8th Rank, Entrance Examination Result… 720/1000… Comprehensive Rank : 27th.」

In the card, there’s not only my age and birthplace, but also the result of my entrance examination and sorcerer rank.

《Sorcerer Rank》 was a rank that indicated a person’s capabilities as a sorcerer, thus humans who had the power as sorcerer would have their power measured at each turning point. This was certified and led by 《World Sorcerer Union》 which worked as the advisor for the representative sorcerers of each nation and country. There was an established rank that goes from the highest to the Lower 9th rank, and even below that which was Big New Rank and Small New Rank. [ED: Don’t ask about big new rank and small new rank. This editor had given up on life and common sense, and hope you guys will pray for its revival in my next life.]

In this case, as long as one has enough mana to use sorcery, they would be given the lowest Small New Rank. But, in all respects, the rank itself held no special meaning.

At most, it was an indicator of potential sorcerer.

By the way, the Lower 8th Rank recorded in my card means that I was seen as a sorcerer who could use five 2nd tier sorcery including 1st tier sorcery. And since many of the academy students started their lesson ever since they were young, this was a normal status. After all, the majority of them should be able to use at least five 1st tier sorcery by this level. Besides, 2nd tier sorcery were usually learned after they entered the academy.

While I was reading the information that was written in that card, I spotted a little protrusion on the side of the card. I tried to touch it to check what it was, and suddenly the recorded content I read previously was replaced by another one with a clicking sound.

「……」

When I read the content again, I found that all of my PROPER personal information was written in there. And it was completely different from what I’d read previously.

After I finished reading the new content, all the while keeping an expressionless face on me, I tapped the protrusion once again in a hurry. To restore the previous content. At once, the card returned to the previous one in its display. [TL : Previous one–>Faked content, New one–>True information about Ryuu]

That headmaster really went all the way and hid such outrageous content in my card.

There was no way I would let other people see the hidden content. But, this card was a problem since it would show the other content only with a tap on the protrusion…it’d be…dangerous. Besides, I didn’t need the other content. So, I supposed I’d ask the headmaster for the way to disable this mechanism later

Because I had abandoned my former status. Or, strictly speaking, I was already an abandoned thing.

「…. KYAAAA! ? 」

While I was strolling inside the academy, I collided with someone who ran from the blindspot at the corner of the corridor. And, even though I had adjusted my walking pace since I had sensed beforehand that someone was coming from the corner, I was left astonished since it seemed like the other party also sensed and did the same thing as me.

That person’s action mirrored mine very well, which left me helpless since that person would stop the exact moment I stopped as well. Therefore, left with no choice, I guess I had to walk like normal, and as expected, we collided at the corner.

From the voice and the feeling when we collided, the other party was a young woman. Moreover, when I looked at the one who collided against me, the girl who fell on her rear wore the uniform of Helios Sorcery Academy which I have yet to receive.

At the moment, she didn’t get up yet, but soon, she rubbed on her knees as she said 「It’s Hwuu~rt!」.

At a glance, I thought that she was a dumb girl. I didn’t tell her that though since I felt that it would be problematic for my human relationship if I told her my feelings toward the girl that I had just met for the first time. Thus, I only shook my head as I decided to show my consideration toward the girl.

「….. Uhm, are you okay? 」

I asked and the girl looked shocked for a moment before she stood up in a hurry.

「I-I’m okway! U-Uhm, can I…. Borrow your hand? 」

She asked. When I heard her question, I naturally lent my hand to help, especially since my original intention was to help her anyway. Although…I felt something was amiss.

I couldn’t really tell what was amiss, therefore, I only nodded at her whilst my mind was away, pondering.over the matter. Thereupon, the girl timidly grasped my outstretched hand tightly.

「Thank you very much! You saved me. Uhm, I am Elise Randoll! You… Are? 」

「Me? I am Ryuu. Rather than that, You must be in hurry due to something, no??」

While I didn’t know why, she did collide against me at such a high speed, meaning she was in a hurry for reason unknown to me. Besides, the matter of her matching pace with me was most probably only a coincidence. Anyhow, she did come from the blindspot, thus it was only natural for her to collide against me considering the speed of her movement. That speed seemed to be an effect of sorcery though since I couldn’t see that this girl would have that much natural physical power.

In the first place, I was merely exploring this academy to waste my time, so helping this girl helped me to waste it. Thus, I couldn’t be so cold to her.

The girl tilted her head in when she saw me like that, but,

「Ah, Y-You’re right…. Well, I’ll express my gratitude again later. Thank you very much, Ryuu Amapola! 」

The girl said before leaving in a hurry. And while I saw her off with a vague smile on my face as I waved my hand to her, I suddenly recalled that girl’s parting line that puzzled me.

Did I―― Tell her my full name?

And.

I had no memory of telling her my full name but, I was sure that girl said my full name just now. Have we been introduced somewhere before? But, no, even without being introduced, this place was Nobles Porveyed Academy. So, there might exist a way to get your hand into the name and birthplace of a new transfer student.

The girl might be aware of my full name with one of those methods, but since this is our first meeting, I guess it was her way to show her manner since she heard my full name beforehand. [ED: …right, is that not creepy? Oh well…he might not be the only stalker here…]

Anyhow.

Looking at it as a whole, it didn’t seem to be a particularly strange course of event.

And yet, this strange premonition and out of place feeling was… Just my imagination, right?

I continued my exploration of the academy as I pondered about this matter.
